Inês Assis
Expansion
Atelier da Graça
LISBON . 11.2023
Expansion proposes a reflection on the relationship between the individual and their inner layers, exploring how we deal with aspects of ourselves that we often tend to avoid, hide, or reject.
Through silhouettes and abstract compositions, the exhibition addresses the concept of "shadow" as an integral dimension of human experience. These shadows do not represent something negative but rather emerge as essential elements in the process of self-knowledge and growth, suggesting that accepting our fragilities and fears can open space for inner transformation and an expansion of the heart.
The abstract works function as a visual extension of the idea of expansion, translating through gesture, color, and movement a passage between distinct internal states, from more contained structures to more open compositions, from cooler tones to warmer and more luminous atmospheres.
Maintaining a visual language marked by chromatic intensity, strong contrasts, and the use of fluorescent colors, Inês Assis creates a dialogue between restraint and liberation, proposing an interpretation of the human experience as a continuous process of acceptance, discovery, and expansion.
